The most peaceful bay on the southeastern coast of Shikotan is the Tserkovnaya bay (en. - "Church bay") On both edges sides of the bay there are two islands – Aivazovskogo and island Devyatiy Val. Tserkovnaya bay is interesting for its history and nearby objects: a larch forest, the site of a former Japanese settlement, the Notoro and Tomari mountains (two ancient extinct volcanoes) In this bay there is a house built by the inspectors of the reserve.
